Buying A Leupold Spotting Scope?

By leupoldspottingscope · Monday, July 13th, 2009

Spotting scopes are generally offers the most powerful magnification and can be attached (mounted) to digital cameras and/or mounted to a tripod.

These types of scopes tend to be at the higher end of the price range (particularly Leupold Spotting Scopes since they offer some of the best optics). There are cheaper alternatives than spotting scopes these days, e.g. range finders which have become a common replacement, it is not equal in quality of optics to a spotting scope.

What you use the scope for will determine the type of optics you need to choose.

For instance, if you are going to be viewing things at a long distance (for hunting or bird watching  purposes), you would want to choose a spotting scope with a lot of magnification and a decent size objective lens diameter.

You’d also want to consider the amount of eye-relief. This is especially important if you wear glasses (or sunglasses).

Another thing to consider is the weather, so if you are planning on going on longer trips you may want to consider a water- and/or fog-proof lens.

Also, lighting conditions obviously matter when you are choosing a scope as well. In poor lighting having a high quality can be the difference between spotting what you need and completely missing the opportunity.

A Leupold Spotting Scope with a larger objective lens and a bigger exit pupil will accentuate available light, which can help you see better at dawn or dusk (when lighting is particularly poor).
